Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre organised a Musical Evening by Dr. Saurav Kumar Nahar at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, Gulshan-1, Dhaka at 6:30 PM on March 7, 2015.

Dr. Saurav Kumar Nahar is an established Hindustani Classical Vocal Music exponent of India who is presently working as a vocal teacher-cum-performer at IGCC, Dhaka. He is one of the foremost exponents of Bhagalpur Sangeet Gharana. Born in 1984 in Bihar, Mr. Nahar hails from a family of great musical maestros like late Pandit Prahalad Prasad Mishra (his grandfather) and has trained under late Pandit Ram Naresh Mishra. Presently, he is training under the able guidance of his father Guru Pandit Sangeet Kumar Nahar. He is an M.A in music from Delhi University and obtained his doctorate degree from Indira Kala Sangit University, Khairagarh.

Dr. Nahar is blessed with the basic instinct of a khayal singer. He has an uncanny knack of performing Khayal gayaki in its myriad forms with great skill and adroitness. He has a very well cultivated voice. His musical expressions in the form of taans and smooth rhythmical movements through the saptakas are mesmerizingly beautiful. He also excels in light classical gayaki like religious Bhajans.

Dr. Nahar is an “A” grade Artist of All India Radio & Doordarshan. He has many achievements to his credit. In the year 1998, he won the First prize at the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy competition. He also won the All India Radio Competition in the same year. Between 1999 and 2003, he won several prizes and honours in the Youth Festivals organised by the Association of Indian Universities in several States of India. He was awarded scholarship in the year 2003 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India for his musical talent. He is a Sangeet Prabhaker in vocal music and secured the 1st position in India in a contest organised by the Prayag Sangeet Samiti. He has also been awarded by the Bihar Institute of Technology, Sindri.

Dr. Saurav Nahar has presented classical Hindustani vocal music recitals in many prestigious Sangeet Samellans of India & abroad such as Arambh Sangeet Sammellan at Bhopal, Sa Ma Pa Sangeet Sammellan at New Delhi, Baba Hariballabh Sangeet Samellan Jalandher, Achleshwar Mahadev Sangeet Sabha at Sonbhadra, Prathibha Utsav at Patna organized by Delhi Sangeet Natak Academy, Ninad Sangeet Sabha by DPS, Saptak Sangeet Sabha at Ahmedabad, Navodit kalakar samiti organized by Gandhi Hindustani Sahitya Sabha New Delhi. He has also performed in different venues in Bangladesh such as Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka club, Chhayanaut and Tangail Club Auditorium.
