Event at Indira Gandhi Cultural Center

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), Dhaka, in association with Asian Paints and Marico Bangladesh, is screening the film “Boishommo” directed by Adam Dawla, eminent Film Maker and TV personality of Bangladesh.

Mr. Adam Dawla has been working with TV production for a long time. He spent most of his life in Europe and North and South America. In the early 1980s, he was a member of the production team of German TV ZDF’s famous crime series Ein Fall für Zwei. He has also worked as a journalist and news anchor in different countries. His full-length documentary Fifty Years of Melody was well received in the German Programme Cinema in 2010. Journey to the Heart is his first full-length feature film. Presently, he is working as head of production with Independent Television.

“Boishommo” (Journey to the Heart) is the story of a 14-year-old rich and spoiled boy called Jaimy who habitually discriminates the underprivileged. His father is an industrialist who exports cooking pots to Europe. When Jaimy insults his father during a quarrel one day, the father gives the boy a cooking pot and asks him to sell it as a way to prove his own worth. Out in the open, Jaimy realizes how helpless he is in the streets of his own city. The reality he sees around himself is far from the reality he has known all his life as a rich boy. The people that surround him now are the vast majority of Bangladesh, people who run from car to car in the streets to sell small things and thus guarantee their survival, people who live in the slums where children are involved in drug-dealing and stealing, people who believe that the rich are responsible for their poverty. But these are also the people who sing and dance in the evening, people who have faith in themselves and in their dignity, people who never give up despite all the odds in their lives.
