Insurance expert M Harunur Rashid Expired

Mr. M. Harunur Rashid, ACII, was an insurance expert and director of United Insurance Company Limited expired on 11 March 2015 at 2:30 PM at United Hospital.

He was one of the most senior outstanding and celebrated insurance-expert of the country who had Insurance education and long experience in the insurance field. He worked both at the industry as well as sectoral policy level. He held the key position of Controller of Insurance of the Government of Bangladesh and was responsible for formulation of all sorts of insurance laws/regulations and other related matters, and also the macro management and policy structure of the insurance industry including insurance funds, intra and inter sectoral operational framework and so on.

Mr. Rashid also worked as General Manager of JBC, Corporate Executive, and Director of different insurance companies.

He was graduated in Science from Calcutta University in 1947 and was an Associate, Chartered Insurance Institute (A.C.I.I), London.

Mr. Rashid participated in Training Programme of UNDP in 1976-77 on Insurance for three and a half- month and visited Malaysia, Sweden, Germany and Switzerland.

In 1980 Mr. Rashid received Training on technical and financial aspects as Controller of Insurance in the Insurance Institute of Asia and the Pacific, Manila, Philippines.

In 1978 he obtained a Four-month Senior Staff Course of the Bangladesh Administrative Staff College.

He had been the Chief Executive of United Insurance Company Limited from 1985 to 1998.

He had been the Director, Bangladesh Insurance Academy – imparting training in Life and General Insurance for the period of 1978-1979.

Mr. Rashid joined Life Insurance on 01.05.1948 as a Junior Executive and held various mid-level positions until 30th April 1961.
