Musical Evening by Mehreen at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre

Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre is organizing a Musical Evening by Ms. Mehreen at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, Gulshan-1, Dhaka at 6:30 PM on February 14, 2015.

Born in Dhaka, Mehreen is a multi-genre artist who amalgamates oriental classical music with local Bangla pop creating fusion genres like Bangla-Jazz, Bangla-Samba, Bangla-World etc. Hailing from a family of musicians, Mehreen trained under Classical music maestro Ustaad Mithun Dey from the early age of 7. Her first album “Anari”, published in the year 2000, created a revival of pop culture in Bangladesh.

In 2008, Mehreen won the distinction of being the judge from Bangladesh for the Band Hunt reality show in Kolkata – “the Band Wagon”– along with Grammy Award winner, Mr. A.R. Rahman. She has also been a regular commentator and performer on international TV channels such as ESPN, ETV Bangla, Zee Bangla, Tara Music, South Asian etc as also for radio in Kolkata and BBC Bangla Service. She also sang the theme song—“Kintu Ektai” for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the ICC World Cup Cricket Tournament in Feb-Apr 2011.

Mehreen is part of the Pop Band – “Mehreen and Anaries” since 1994 that has released popular albums like Dekha Hobe (2002), Mone Pore Tomae (2004), Bhalobashar Gaan– A Romantic Compilation (2005), Don’t Forget Me (2006), Tumi Acho Boley (2008) etc. Popular numbers like Rajkumar, Tumi Acho Bole, Dhol, Anari, Dhaka, etc. were also composed and sung by her. Mehreen is the proud recipient of the Citycell Channel I Music Award 2010, Dhaliwood 2010, Bachshash 2010 and Crab award 2010.

Mehreen is affiliated with the World Food Program of the United Nations as its Goodwill Ambassador and with the Women Federation for World Peace as its Peace Ambassador. Although she had spent a fair bit of her life in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies, she pursued her academic and musical training and career in Bangladesh having completed her MA in English Literature from the Dhaka University.
