Tobacco company interference on tobacco taxation

The tobacco companies are interfering on country’s taxation policy by both direct and indirect ways. As a result, there is no effective taxation on the budget and the government hardly is benefited of the imposed tax. The government is imposing tax on the price-slab instead of Specific Tax (Supplementary Duty- SD) which is a blessing for the tobacco companies in guise.

The fact has been exposed by one of our ATMA members Hamid Uz Zaman Mamun published in the Daily Janakantha on 21 May, 2014. The detail report will be found in the following link and in the attachment. A translated version of the report has also attached for international readers.
